If you’ve never tried Reiki before, the phrase “energy healing” can sound a little mysterious — maybe even a bit intimidating. In truth, a Reiki session is one of the simplest, gentlest treatments I offer, and most people are surprised by just how ordinary and comfortable it feels. Here’s what really happens, from the moment you arrive.
Before we begin
We start with a short chat. I’ll ask how you’re feeling, whether anything in particular brought you in — stress, poor sleep, a busy season of life — and what you’d like from the session. There’s nothing to prepare and nothing to get right. You stay fully clothed throughout; all you remove are your shoes.
During the session
You’ll lie on a warm, comfortable treatment bed, tucked under a soft blanket, with calming music playing quietly in the background. I then place my hands gently on or just above different areas of the body — the head, shoulders, torso, knees and feet — holding each position for a few minutes at a time.
People describe the sensations in different ways: warmth from my hands, a pleasant heaviness, gentle tingling, or simply a deep sense of calm. Many drift into that lovely place between waking and sleeping — and yes, some people nod off completely. That’s always allowed.
How it may feel afterwards
Most clients leave feeling noticeably calmer and lighter, as though the volume of a busy mind has been turned down. Some feel wonderfully sleepy that evening and enjoy their best night’s rest in weeks; others feel gently energised. I always recommend drinking plenty of water and giving yourself a soft, unhurried rest of the day if you can.
Common questions
Do I have to believe in it for it to work? Not at all. You don’t need to believe anything — just to lie down and rest. Whatever else Reiki is, an hour of intentional stillness in a calm room is something very few of us give ourselves.
Will you touch me? Only lightly, and only with your consent. If you’d prefer a completely hands-off session, just say — the treatment works the same way with my hands held just above the body.
How many sessions do I need? There’s no set rule. Some people come for a one-off reset in a stressful week; others enjoy a session every few weeks as part of how they look after themselves.
As a Reiki Master, this treatment is very close to my heart — it’s the one I turn to myself when life gets loud. If you’re curious, you’re warmly invited to come and experience it in my garden clinic in Kilteragh. No mystery, no pressure — just deep, genuine rest.
